Overlapping symmetrical 16mm films create an uncanny experience of color as both presence and absence, a negation that is generative. The middle of the image is a subtly differentiated field while the penumbra around it reveals the dynamically shifting contrast between the reels. The color portion of the films are symmetrical in structure, but unequal loop lengths overall produce nearly limitless combinations. The color extends to the soundtrack area of the film, creating a soft noise. The overall effect is of something that is always changing, and always the same.
