In 2014, I began to write scores that would perform themselves; that is, simply by writing and/or reading a phrase, we could enact it. In 2024, I started to write new versions of these scores. For convenience, I called them "new words." Many of these scores take the form of expanded cinema—film without film—but they are also almost nothing at all. Their status as cinema remains open; they also seem to relate to what Mieko Shiomi says of music: “Feeling duration itself is music. … you don’t need any sound, you can use something visual.”
